- The cable tray shall be CSA approved Class E/3M as per CSA/NEMA standard C22.2 no.126.1-09 and have a maximum load rating of 299 kg/m, 201 lbs/ft.
- The cable tray shall be classified by UL to NEC (2011 Edition), NEMA VE 1 and ANSI/NFPA 70 and be suitable for use as an equipment grounding connector.
- The minimum cross-sectional area of the cable tray shall be 2.6in² (1677mm²)
- The width of the cable tray shall be (6" (150mm), 9" (225mm), 12" (300mm), 18" (450mm), 24" (600mm), 30" (750mm) or 36" (900mm)).
- For ladder style, the rung spacing shall be (6" (150mm), 9" (225mm) or 12" (300mm)).
- The standard length of each cable tray shall be (10'-0" (3048mm).
- The cable tray shall be supported at a maximum of every (eg: 60" (1500mm) or 120" (3050mm)).
- Intersections
- For locations where the cable tray will intersect, use (radiused fittings or "Mini" fittings).
- Radiused fittings (if applicable) shall have a minimum radius of (12" (300mm) or 24" (600mm)).
- Siderail
- The side rails shall be provided with a continuous open channel with a dimension of 7/8" (22mm) wide and 1-5/8" (41mm) high. This is to allow for the acceptance of spring nuts to facilitate the no-drilling installation of accessories (eg: couplings, hanger angles, etc).
- The cable tray siderail shall be made of extruded aluminum alloy 6005.
- The nominal height of the siderail shall be 6" (150mm)
- The loading depth shall be 5-1/4" (133mm).
- Rung
- The rungs shall be made of extruded aluminum alloy 66081 (or its equivalent 6063-T54), have rounded edges and be a continuous open channel with a dimension of 1-9/16" (40mm) wide and 11/16" (17mm) high.
- The channel style rung shall accommodate the use of pipe clamps to secure pipes or cables and allow for the acceptance of spring nuts.
- The rungs shall have slotted holes with a dimension of ¼" (6mm) wide and ¾" (19mm) long and be on 1" (25mm) increments to facilitate the use of tie wraps to secure cables.
- Every second rung shall be inverted to allow for underside mounting of conduit or cable with pipe clamps or spring nuts.
- The rungs shall be welded in the lower corners to eliminate having welds in the area where cables shall be run.
- Accessories
- Accessories shall be used only as recommended by the manufacturer.
- All accessories shall be made from aluminum.
- The cable tray shall be suspended using the (BA310 hanger angle-standard, BA313 hanger angle-heavy duty, CSB hanger bracket, CCT centre hanger or CCX centre support bracket).
- Splice connections shall be made with the (BA320 standard or BA321 heavy duty) connector.
- In locations where the end of the cable tray needs to be secured to the wall, (2 x BA302 angles, 2 x BA308 angles, 1 x BA5 Series side-wall bracket, or 1 x BA6 Series end-wall bracket) shall be used.
- It (is or is not) necessary to install cable hangers on the siderail of the cable tray to isolate the ground cable(s). If required, use the (small BA346-XX-XX or large BA347-XX-XX) cable hanger with a maximum spacing of every 18" (450mm).
- It (is or is not) necessary to close exposed ends of the cable tray using BA4 Series tray end.
- It (is or is not) necessary to provide BA13 Series solid bottom tray sheets.
- It (is or is not) necessary to provide BA16 Series dividers.
- It (is or is not) necessary to provide BA18 Series solid covers.
- It (is or is not) necessary to electrically isolate the hanger angles (eg: BA313 hanger angle-large) (if required) with nylon shoulder washers (eg: BB981).
